Project Information:
Many buildings in Boston have what are known as “sidewalk” or “basement” vaults. These vaults are an extension of the basement of a building, which extended under the sidewalk and into the street. The Bostonian Hotel was experiencing water infiltration coming from their vaulted sidewalk and contracted ESI to make their basement watertight. ESI investigated the leak and found that the brick and cobbles were incased in concrete that was deteriorating allowing the bricks to shift and cause a tripping hazard while allowing water to seep through to their vaulted basement. To repair the numerous leaks ESI removed all the bricks and cobbles, Removed the existing concrete topping. Lay out a concrete leveler to pitch the walkway to the rear of the buildings to a storm drain. Applied a liquid, waterproof membrane, Installed drainage matt over the liquid membrane. Tamped down a setting bed and reset all the brick pavers and cobbles.
